Asbestos is a term used to describe a group of naturally occuring fibrous silicates. Although there are six types of Asbestos, three were commonly used in the United Kingdom in construction products until the late 1990's.
The three common types are: Chrysotile (White Asbestos)Amosite (Brown Asbestos)Crocidolite (Blue Asbestos)
All these types represent a risk to health but Crocidolite and Amosite Asbestos are known to be significantly more dangerous.
The different types cannot always be identified by colour alone so care should be taken when trying to determine which type a material is constructed of and examination should always be left to a qualified Asbestos Surveyor.
